Are all halogen bulbs used in low voltage (12V)?
I ask this because I just came across the halogen spotlights (28W) housed in a light bulb in a normal way (E27), with a screw cap Ikea. If you live in a normal 240V piece of light, what would happen? If I understand correctly, all halogen light (Table Lamp and lighting of the track), I use an integrated transformer …?? All response?
Short answer: No Long answer: E-27 is what is called "medium screw" or "Edison". It is a term United States and the United Kingdom (which answers above). Halogen lamps are all voltages and configurations. The determining factor is the size of the filament. 12v filaments are thinner and more strongly that if the filaments are heavier caliber 120/240. There are many tensions between 6V, 82V, etc. A transformer steps the line voltage (240 in your case, 120 in mine) to the level necessary for the bulb. But, halogens are not necessarily exclusive of the voltage, which depends only on design and specification. The lamp you are talking about as far as we know it is a par 16 or MR-16 medium screw base. I also heard it called an RPG-50 (the number at the end indicates that this particular device was 50W) but I'm not sure what the ANSI code (for names of bulbs) are in your area. If you put a 12 volt bulb in a 240V outlet would probably pop sound pretty decent. It could even leave the envelope glass. I do not recommend;)
