sounds to me like it is about a girl that is very beautiful and has brightness in her but chooses to stay in darkness (doing wrong things), but sometimes she may realize that she is in darkness and rises out of it, but then falls back down and i think he had the mirror in there so that she could see her reflection of how beautiful and how good she can be 
or it also actually can sound like the person thinks that there is no hope with this line “The shattered surface,So imperfect,Is all that you believe.” so i think there is reason #1 which is she is in darkness or reason #2 which she is depressed and alone and feels there is no hope or perhaps has low self esteem.
