How do I hardwire a plug-in pendant light?
I would like to replace the light in my foyer, but the one I would like to install has a plug instead of an electric box. How can I install this?
Thanks. I think the pendant is just a hanging cord with a 2-prong plug, so does it need to be grounded?
Cut the cord, one side has a ribbed texture, that is the neutral. The smooth side is the hot. If there is any doubt about whether your box is grounded or not, add a wire to the nut on the inside of the pendant and attach to the ground screw inside of the box. Your pendant will probably not have a place to attach a ground wire without changing the cord, but should be safe to do the first steps. If unsure call an electrician or good handyman.
