Electric Light porch distribution only works when taken in use nearby.?
have a switch plate with two switches through my door, a switch for the porch light and an entrance to the light switch (also Spider a second switch at the top of the stairs). At the turn of the switches is a power outlet. Neither the porch light or lamp work, unless something is connected to the output. This problem is intermitant on long-term importance, the lights work well for a month or two and then the problem similar time. I tested the output connector in the mounting and wiring shown correct. Also note there are two seasons a bird builds a nest in and around making the porch light with fibers entering the nest hole bulb screws. This was the first problem occour. When cleaning the nest, everything worked well for awhile, then started the problem again. The input jack is always clean and well and when there is something connected to the inside. What could be causing this problem?
My guess is fine if you are a victim of a connection loose. And who said that the porch light will only work if something was plugged in, this action will cause the connection to make contact. Try this: 1) find and disable the power switch off, or unscrew the fuse. 2) removing the container cover 3) remove from the wall outlet (if serious problem, you can see the effects of this connection immediately released by the bleaching of cables connected to the output. If there has no display so that no means the connection is not loose, not only is not strong enough to begin cable insulation burning) 4) Unplug all cables, one at a time, then reinstall and tighten the screw down hard! 5) Re-install the new receptacle in the box from 6 to install the cover 7) to restore power and test Hope this helps.
