How do you get rid of flies from inside the house?
What’s the best way to get rid of flies from the house? I have tried nearly everything. We have an open plan house and have floor to ceiling bi-fold glass doors at the back, but rarely have them open beause of the flies. We have large shutter windows also. We are looking to add fly screens as a last resort, as we think these do not look good on large windows and would not work on the large back doors. We have tried those fly catches with the bags, but they do not seem to catch that many flies and the stink and look disgusting. I have tried those fly flower stickers on the windows that flies are meant to be attracted to. I do not like theose blue light zappers (too smelly and sound awful). I think a ziplock sandwich bag filled with water would not look attractive hanging from the door. Is there a natural plant that flies hate, or an electronic high frequency device that deters flies? I also do not intend moving to the Antartica where there are no flies. Thanks.
From what you say the flies are entering the property, so the question is one of wether you have more flies than is usual. If you do then it is a case of [a] treating the problem at source or [b] working out what is attracting them to your property.
[a] It may be that the soil or foliage in your garden is a good breeding ground for flies. Watch the garden when the ground is moist or wet to see if there is added activity. If there is you will need to work on improving soil drainage to reduce the numbers of flies breeding.
[b] Quite often I arrive at properties with this type of problem to discover that they have a light or bulb that opperates at a frequency that attracts flies etc…. If in an evening activity is high, try turning off lights in turn to discover if any are responsible.
Other than that you may have to put up with curtaining of some type.
